Union Bank’s Richard Chacon to Receive 2014 Latin Business Advocate of the Year Award

On May 12, 2014, the Latin Business Association (LBA) announced that Richard Chacon, Senior Vice President of Supplier Diversity & Development for Union Bank, will receive the LBA Advocate of the Year Award. The award will be given in October 2014 at the 38th Annual LBA Sol Business Awards Gala.


“Richard has dedicated his career to opening doors for minority- and women-owned business to do business with major corporations across the country. He has achieved repeated success in increasing diverse spend at Union Bank. As an indication of his intent to make a difference, Richard’s role expanded to include assistance in developing the skills of diverse business owners to better position us as solid business partners,”  said Sheila Lewis, CEO Ashton212. She went on to say that, “There are not many like Richard in the supplier diversity industry. This is a well-deserved honor.”


Richard is responsible for providing diverse business enterprises with the maximum practicable opportunity to participate in the Bank’s procurement of goods and services in California, Oregon and Washington. A sixteen-year veteran of Union Bank, Richard has been the driving force behind its increase in diverse business supplier spend from $13 million in 1996 to $163 million in 2013.  Prior to his current position, Mr. Chacon  served in the U.S. Army for 10 years, and worked with Pacific Bell, Levi Strauss, LB Credit, and Wells Fargo Bank.


Richard is an Executive Board member and Vice Chair of the Financial Services Roundtable for Supplier Diversity, a board member and Treasurer of the Northwest Minority Supplier Development Council, a board member of the Western Regional Minority Supplier Development Council, and a founding member and current board member of the San Diego Regional Minority Supplier Development Council. Mr. Chacon is also a Corporate Advisor to the Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce, the Asian Business Association-LA, and to the California Service Disabled Veteran’s Business Alliance.
