Posted 240 days ago by Mary Ann Munro

On Saturday, October 27, 2018, the national Minority Women Professionals are MVPs Conference series will be making its West Coast stop in the city of Oakland, CA.  Fresh off the heels of a successful East Coast Conference at Harvard Medical School, the West Coast conference will be kicked off by Mayor Libby Schaaf, the 50th Mayor of the City of Oakland.

Minority Women Professionals are MVPs is the brainchild of Dr. J. Nwando Olayiwola, MD, MPH, FAAFP, a world-renowned thinker, leader, author and change agent in healthcare, diversity, motivation, innovation and transformation. Dr. Olayiwola is particularly excited about this conference, saying “this is an important moment in time for minority women. We are often forces in our communities and professions, but rarely have a safe space to celebrate with each other. It’s exciting to head back to Oakland where we held our first conference last January, and to have the full support of the city in this movement.”

With sponsorship from the California Healthcare Foundation and the California Academy of Family Physicians, the Association of Minority Women Professionals will be convening approximately 100 women across the West Coast to celebrate women of diverse backgrounds and experiences. This conference, the 7th in the United States, will be held at the historic Oakland Asian Cultural Center. It will feature a series of guest speakers, workshops, networking and mentorship opportunities aimed to inspire and empower Minority Women Professionals (MWPs), while also equipping them with essential tools and skills to “survive and thrive” in their professions.

West Coast Conference headliners include Mayor Libby SchaafSheila Lewis, co-Founder and CEO of Ashton212 and an international women’s empowerment leader, and Zahra Billoo Esq., Executive Director of the Council on American Islamic Relations’ San Francisco Bay Area Office. Additional highlights include inspiration by Maame Afon Yelbert-Sai, international coach and women’s leader, Chair of the African Women’s Development Fund-USA and vocalist; as well as special performances by Broadway Rhythm Dance Company, a leading Bay Area dance and performing arts studio, and a host of incredible and influential women leaders, entrepreneurs and advocates.

Conference Co-host and Strategist, Dr. Pooja Mittal shares, “This conference is THE place where we can come to get inspired and set both work and personal goals for continued growth. The speakers are all fantastic and bring so many different perspectives to the table!” Dr. Mittal is a healthcare leader working to improve the health of families in California.”

Please join us and share this information with other women you know. It’s surely going to be a wonderful day celebrating and uplifting women!
