The senior leadership team of a South American business was preparing for a leadership transition brought about by the CEO’s retirement. Existing leaders were concerned they would have no say in selecting the new CEO. They brought up past issues and “undiscussable” topics that were affecting their current working relationships.


A senior consultant with a deep understanding of the local language, culture, business environment and political context was assigned to design and develop a cultural transformation retreat for top leadership to discuss current concerns and the mindset and behaviors that were obscuring the company’s vision for the future.


The team has taken ownership and accountability for their actions; less experienced leaders are volunteering for leadership roles. With the new CEO on the job, the team is currently aligning goals and objectives to support a slightly different mission than was previously in place.
